- All dayRaza Heritage Month Book DisplayThroughout September 15 to October 15, we get together to observe Raza Heritage Month. During this time, the CSUN University Library honors the lived experiences and cultural history of those with ancestries from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. For our 2024 observation, we have put the spotlight on Queer Latin(x) authors, narratives and scholarship. Our University Library is proud to commemorate the many contributions of LGBTQIA+ Latinx Americans, particularly within education, literature, art, activism, and groundbreaking research and discoveries.

Learn about their research, activism and contributions to CSUN’s legacy, and explore ways to get involved.
- 11:00 AM1h 30mKeynote Speaker: Erica Alfaro, “Succeed Despite Adversity”Erica Alfaro is a CSU alumna, an award-winning author, educational advocate and the proud daughter of migrant farmworkers. In 2019, Erica’s graduation picture, where she is standing in a strawberry field with her farmworker parents, became the first graduation picture to go viral and made headlines worldwide. Erica will be presenting an hour-long keynote presentation on three lessons that led to her success despite adversity. She will also be giving away copies of her book, Harvesting Dreams, and having a brief Q&A. UCS will be providing light refreshments from Porto’s for attendees as well. Discuss issues of difference, conflict, and community within the Latinx culture to facilitate understanding between social/cultural groups. Student participation in semi-structured face-to-face dialogues with students from other social identity groups to learn from each others’ narratives and perspectives. Exploration of ways of taking action beyond Latinx misconceptions to create change and bridge differences at interpersonal and social/community levels.
