CSUN Choreographers Will Showcase New Dances at Highly Anticipated Performance

California State University, Northridge’s top student choreographers and dancers will demonstrate diverse choreographic vision, passionate dancing and powerful performances in “Kinesis: Emerging Choreography,” which will premiere on Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, April 24, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The performances will take place in the Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall in the University Student Union, located off Zelzah Avenue on the east side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
“Kinesis will provide a glimpse into the art and life that is and continues to occur at CSUN, as well as showcase many talented dancers and choreographers,” said CSUN kinesiology professor Mariko Iwabuchi, who teaches in the College of Health and Human Development. “Choreographic diversity will be the hallmark of this concert, with dance styles ranging from Hip-Hop to Contemporary.”
She said the performance will feature 15 dances across the range of styles, which will reflect current social concerns as well as the opportunity to celebrate the pure joy of dancing.
The April 24 matinee performance will honor CSUN kinesiology professor William Whiting, who is retiring this year.
“As a leading expert in biomechanics and kinesiology, he has inspired countless students who are now working throughout the country,” Iwabuchi said. “We are eager to extend our gratitude to him and wish him well in his retirement.”
