Publications
Irene Clark’s (English) article, “Where Have You Been? Where are You Going? Reconsidering Literacy Narratives in the Context of Neuroscience Research,” has been published in the Spring 2024 issue of Writing Program Administration (Vol 17.2). It is now available online for members.

Ravinder Abrol (Chemistry and Biochemistry) has received $147,500 from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, in support of a project entitled “Structural dynamics and energy landscapes of G protein signaling.”
Andrew Ainsworth (Center For Assessment, Research, and Evaluation), Scott Appelrouth (Sociology) and Jodi Brown (Social Work) have received $32,012 from Seattle University, Saint Francis University and Saint Mary’s University in support of a project entitled “Increasing our Innovation SCOREs: Symbiotic Collaboration of Regional Ecosystems” and $32,015 from Utah Tech University and Humboldt State University.
Carina Alvarado Alcala (Educational Opportunity Program) and Shiva Parsa (Educational Opportunity Program) have received $272,364 from the United States Department of Education, in support of a project entitled “CSU, Northridge Student Support Services Program.”
Alyssa Arentoft (Psychology) has received $32,251 from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in support of a project entitled “Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI-4).”
Marjan Asadinia (Computer Science) has received $146,368 from Humboldt State University, in support of a project entitled “CISE-MSI : RCBP-ED: CCF-FET : Improving Reliability and Durability in Phase Change Main Memory (PCM).”
Wendy Ashley (Social Work) has received $226,742 from the University of California, Los Angeles, in support of a project entitled “University Consortium for Children and Families (UCCF).”
Chhandak Basu (Biology) has received $191,850 from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, in support of a project entitled “The HALOQUEST (Halobacterium Astrobiological Laboratory for Observing and Questioning Extraterrestrial Signatures and Traits) project.”
Kacie Blackman (Health Equity Research and Education) has received $29,270 from The Regents of the University of California, in support of a project entitled “Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (dCBT) for Anxiety During Pregnancy: Evaluation and Actioning through HOPE.”
Melanie Bocanegra (Student Success) has received $32,000 from the California State University, Office of the Chancellor, in support of a project entitled “Equity-Minded Pedagogy Course.”
Danielle Bram (Center for Geospatial Science and Technology) has received $5,609 from California State University, San Bernardino, in support of a project entitled “DACIP Task Order 3 – Ventura” and $40,000 from the Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs, in support of a project entitled “Cal Fire Forest Restoration Project.”

Rafi Efrat (Bookstein Institute) has received $10,000 from the United States Department of Treasury, in support of a project entitled “The Bookstein Low Income Taxpayer Clinic” and $72,000 from the United States Department of Treasury, in support of a project entitled “The Bookstein Low Income Taxpayer Clinic.”
Joshua Einhorn (Education Office of the Dean) and Julie Gainsburg (Secondary Education) have received $9,600 from the California State University Chancellors Office, in support of a project entitled “CSU Center for Transformational Educator Preparation Programs (CTEPP).”

Nhut Ho (Autonomy Research Center), Kyle Dewey (Computer Science) and Thomas Chan (Psychology) have received $949,997 from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, in support of a project entitled “Autonomy Research Center for STEM.”
Nhut Ho (Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM) has received $334,406 from the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research, in support of a project entitled “Dynamics of Trust Evolution and Calibration: A Field Study of Heterogeneous Human-Machine Teams with High Levels of Autonomy Operating in Contexts with Real Users, Real Systems, and Real Consequences.”
Brad Jackson (Electrical and Computer Engineering) and Chuanbing Shawn Sun (Civil Engineering and Construction Management) have received $15,000 from Ansys, in support of a project entitled “Enhancing Finite Element Analysis Skills for Engineering Students.”
Jonathan Kelber (Biology) has received $326,250 from the National Institutes of Health, in support of a project entitled “Spatiotemporal mechanisms of eIF5A1/2-mediated metastasis in triple-negative breast cancer.”
Xudong Jia (Engineering & Computer Science, Office of the Dean) has received $800,000 from the University of California, Los Angeles, in support of a project entitled “Climate Action – Community-Driven Electric Vehicle Charging Solution (CA-CLEAN)” and $25,126 from CSU Pomona, in support of a project entitled “Statewide Collision Data Analysis, Research Studies, and Ranking Program.”
Xunfei Jiang (Computer Science) and Li Liu (Computer Science) have received $12,800 from the National Science Foundation, in support of a project entitled “REU Site: Applying Data Science on Energy-efficient Cluster Systems and Applications.”
Crist Khachikian (Civil Engineering and Construction Management) and Daisy Lemus (Communication Studies) have received $5,000,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture, in support of a project entitled “Tribal Nursery and Tree Planting Project in Disadvantaged Communities.”
Kah Chun Lau (Physics and Astronomy) has received $70,000 from the Savannah River National Laboratory, in support of a project entitled “Molecular Insights for Fine-Tuned Hydrogen Interaction Control.”
Bingbing Li (Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM) and Nhut Ho (Mechanical Engineering) have received $48,368 from the University of California, Irvine, in support of a project entitled “The Sustainable Manufacturing Alliances for Research and Training Industry Assessment Center (The SMART IAC).”
Bingbing Li (Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM) and Christoph Schaal (Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM) have received $250,000 from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, in support of a project entitled “Consortium for High-volume Additive Manufacturing of Aerospace Heat Exchanger and Talent Development.”
Allen Lipscomb (Social Work) and Jolene Swain (Social Work) have received $333,250 from the University of California, Berkeley, in support of a project entitled “CalSWEC Public Behavioral Health Training Program.”
Gang Lu (WM Keck Computational Materials Theory Center) has received $545,000 from the National Science Foundation, in support of a project entitled “PREM: Partnership between CSUN and Princeton for Quantum Materials.”
Gang Lu (Physics and Astronomy) and Xu Zhang (Physics and Astronomy) have received $1,749,588 from the National Science Foundation, in support of a project entitled “DMREF: Data Driven Discovery of Conjugated Polyelectrolytes for Neuromorphic Computing.”
Regan Maas (Center for Geospatial Science and Technology) and Danielle Bram (Geography and Environmental Studies) have received $29,085 from the Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, in support of a project entitled “NLSLA Legal Needs Study.”
Debra Malmberg (Psychology), Zhen Chai (Special Education) and Vickie Yu (Communication Disorders and Sciences) have received $249,890 from the United States Department of Education, in support of a project entitled “The Bridge Project: Transdisciplinary Preparation of Culturally Responsive Early Childhood Special Educators, Behavior Interventionists, and Speech and Language Pathologists to Serve Young Children with Disabilities.”
Vinicius Maron Sauer (Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM), Nhut Ho (Mechanical Engineering) and BingBing Li (Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management) have received $13,300 from the Aerospace Corporation, in support of a project entitled “Concept Development and Feasibility Study for In-Space Propellant Tank Venting.”
Loren Naidoo (Management) and Cristina Rubino (Management) have received $350,000 from Community Investment For Families, in support of a project entitled “FamilySource System Program Evaluation Proposal.”

Mark Steele (Biology) has received $50,001 from the California State University Council on Ocean Affairs Science and Technology (COAST), in support of a project entitled “Understanding Production and Attraction on Artificial Reefs to Improve the Science of Mitigation.”
Jolene Swain (Social Work) has received $11,000 from Comprehensive Community Health Centers, in support of a project entitled “MIP: Mentored Internship Program for Comprehensive Community Health Center” and $8,250 from the Ventura County Behavioral Health, in support of a project entitled “Mentored Internship Program.”
Maryam Tabibzadeh (Manufacturing Systems, Engineering, and Management) has received $76,000 from the National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine, in support of a project entitled “Improving the Safety of Operations in the Offshore Energy Industry by Reducing its Systemic Risk” and $34,440 from the Regents of the University of California, in support of a project entitled “Extending PRA and HRA legacy methods and tools with a cause-based model for comprehensive treatment of human error dependency.”
Houssam Toutanji (Center for Engineering and Computer Science Research and Education), Xudong Jia (Center for Engineering and Computer Science Research and Education) and Ruting Jia (Electrical and Computer Engineering) have received $35,000 from California State University, Sacramento, in support of a project entitled “Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation – (Chancellor’s Office Award)” and $30,000 in support of a project entitled “Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation – (National Science Foundation).”
Anais Valiquette L’Heureux (Criminology and Justice Studies) has received $159,914 from the Beverly Hills Police Department, in support of a project entitled “Research Partnership Beverly Hills Police Grant.”

Jennifer Wolfe (Secondary Education) has received $39,089 from the Regents of the University of California, in support of a project entitled “California Subject Matter Project Grant for the Cal State Northridge Writing Project” and $36,506 from the Regents of the University of California, in support of a project entitled “Cal State Northridge Writing Project – CSMP.”
Awards
Kate Haake’s (English) book of eco fabulism, What Happened Was, won the inaugural Nothing Exists Alone climate change fiction series award from 11:11 Press.
Kate Haake’s (English) new book of lyric essays, The Touch of Another Hand, won the inaugural Wolfson Prose Prize.
Enrique Solis (English) received an award at the California Association of Teachers of English conference.
Kisa Schultz (English) presented “Curating the “Fruits Basket” (No Homo): How Mainstream Media Reflect Progression and Regression in Gender Politics” at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association conference on the panel, Politically Speaking: Women in the Political Arena.
