Public, member-supported 88.5-FM, The SoCal Sound, has extended their relationship with Paragon and consultant Mike Henry.

Henry is founder and chief executive officer of Paragon, a consulting and research firm specializing in innovative content for broadcast and digital media. The company works with its clients, many public radio stations, to develop comprehensive media strategies.

“Mike and Team Paragon have been an integral part of our team for more than five years, and we would not want to navigate these volatile, uncertain times in our industry without having the best and brightest as our partners,” said Patrick Osburn, general manager of The SoCal Sound. “It was a no-brainer to extend our relationship with Paragon.”

Osburn noted that The SoCal Sound was named “Non-Comm Music Station of the Year” among outlets with music formats in 2022 and 2023 while working with Paragon.

“Mike Henry and Team Paragon’s market research, broadcasting insight and social media pointers have substantially helped The SoCal Sound,” said Program Director Marc “Mookie” Kaczor, who was named “Non-Comm Program Director of the Year” in 2022 and 2023. “Mike’s ability to connect people within the public radio sphere should be recognized and applauded. I’m glad Paragon is on our side.”

Osburn added, “It takes a village these days, and Paragon has resources that can assist with several aspects of this multiplatform business we use to call ‘radio.’”

Paragon has been serving public radio stations for more than 30 years and offers client stations a range of consulting and research services to drive market share and revenue.

“The SoCal Sound is a special radio station,” Henry said. “It’s the little engine that could in the second biggest radio market in the country. After a large market study by Paragon, Pat, Mookie, and their small but nimble team bravely re-branded the radio station to The SoCal Sound a few years ago and greater success followed, including the highest ratings and the most donors in the station’s long history. I look forward to seeing what’s next for these intrepid radio warriors.”

88.5-FM is a combined effort of California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and Saddleback College. The station’s Triple-A (adult album alternative) programming is available on the KCSN and KSBR 88.5 HD1 channels, via the 88.5 app and online at www.TheSoCalSound.org.
