The CSUN women’s soccer team shutout Cal State Bakersfield (CSUB), 1-0, at Matador Soccer Field on Sunday night.
Forward Cailey Jackson scored the winning goal with 17 minutes left of regulation after a corner kick was saved by Bakersfield goalkeeper Kamy Amaya. However, on the attempt to clear the net, Jackson repeatedly took possession of the ball and fired a shot past Amaya.
Matador goalkeeper Riley Liebsack finished with three saves, putting her at 54 on the season. It was the seventh game where she didn’t allow an opponent to score.
The win puts the Matadors at an (5-6-2 overall, 3-0-2 conference) record and into a tie for first place in the Big West conference standings with UC Santa Barbara while CSUB falls to (5-7-2 overall, 2-3-1 conference).
The Matadors aim to keep their lead in the conference as they take on the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 9 p.m. PT at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
