CSUN Partners With Dignity Health at "Helping Hands Holiday Jam" Event for Children
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN Athletics lent a collective hand at the 23rd Annual Dignity Health Northridge Hospital "Helping Hands Holiday Jam" Event for Children on Friday, Dec. 8.
Northridge Hospital Foundation and Dignity Health - Northridge Hospital Medical Center (NHMC), in partnership with many community partners and donors, turned an ordinary parking lot into a child's holiday extravaganza!
A host of CSUN teams including basketball, baseball, softball, beach and women's volleyball, and men's and women's soccer had student-athletes assisting with set-up, carnival games, face painting, and arts and crafts. The CSUN cheer team also performed at the event.
"We've been involved with the Helping Hands Holiday Jam for the past seven years, it's such a great event for the community," said Will Carter, CSUN's General Manager of Matador Sports Properties. "Our student-athletes can come out and be a part of the event which is so heartwarming for all the kids and the student-athletes as well. Dignity Health is such a fantastic partner of CSUN Athletics and this event gets us all in the holiday spirit. We're thrilled to be a part of such an amazing event."
Three hundred and fifty (350) underserved children from the San Fernando Valley celebrated a truly gifted Christmas with carnival games, arts and crafts, food, a visit and photo with Santa, and a bag full of gifts to take home.
For more than 20 years, the Holiday Jam has been a Holiday highlight for thousands of children from our local area elementary schools between the ages of 7-10. These children are part of the "Title1/No Child Left Behind" program that provides financial assistance to local agencies for the education of children of low-income families. For many of these children, this will be their only Christmas.
