NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - In the second in a series of MVP (Most Valuable Professor) nights honoring the CSUN Faculty, the Matador men's soccer team paid tribute to 13 professors during halftime of the CSUN-UC San Diego game on Wednesday (Oct. 18) at Matador Soccer Field.
"CSUN celebrates the dedication of our student-athletes, both on the field and in their academic pursuits," said Shawn Chin-Farrell, CSUN's Director of Athletics. "Equally, we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our faculty and Academic Affairs."
At halftime of the Big West contest that saw CSUN ultimately claim a 2-1 victory, each participating student-athlete honored one professor who significantly impacted their academic journey, underscoring the deep connections beyond the classroom. Each of the 13 CSUN professors were joined by the nominating student-athlete at midfield during the ceremony.
- Ann Hillary Buenafe, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was invited by student-athlete Odin Rosten.
- Martha Carreon, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was invited by student-athlete Eoin Kingsley.
- Tomo Hattori, a professor in the Department of Asian American Studies, was invited by student-athlete Kanata Furutani.
- Dr. JK Kim, a professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, was invited by student-athlete Zion Wagoner.
- Kelan Koning, a professor in the Department of English, was invited by student-athlete Robert Kaemmerer.
- Denise Labertew, a professor in the Department of Criminology and Justice Studies, was invited by student-athlete JT Danks.
- Chin-Hsin Liu, a professor in the Department of Anthropology, was invited by student-athlete Michael Blevins.
- Paulo Marchetti, a professor in the Department of Kinesiology, was invited by student-athlete Michael Arrington.
- Jennifer Marshall, a professor in the Department of Communication Studies and Jiyeon Yun, a professor in the Department of Finance, were both invited by student-athlete Matthieu Fiadjoe.
- Corie Mesa, a professor in the Department English, was invited by student-athlete Merrick Cook.
- Kelly Rowley, a professor in the Department of English, was invited by student-athlete Mamadou Diallo.
- Essence Wilson, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was invited by student-athlete Adrian Sandoval.
The next Most Valuable Professor Day will be held this Sunday, Oct. 22 during halftime of the women's soccer game between CSUN and UC Irvine.
