CSUN Athletics Mourns the Passing of Ira Schneider
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN Athletics is mourning the passing of Ira Schneider who served as team chiropractor for Matador Athletics since 2006.

As a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, Dr. Schneider has had many amateur and professional athletes under his care over the years. He has multiple postgraduate certifications and has been teaching and supervising sports medicine students for the last 18 years at CSUN and served as an Associate Professor at the Southern California University of Health Sciences. More than 1,500 students and interns trained with him during that time.
"Ira was very much a part of the Matador Family for close to 20 years as our Team Chiropractor," said Steve Grech, CSUN's Associate Athletics Director for Health and Wellness. "He was the heart and soul of our sports medicine team. Each week he treated student-athletes from all walks of life with his kindness and generosity with his amazing clinical skills. He literally touched hundreds of lives with his expertise and kind soul. He was a compassionate healer and we miss him greatly! Words alone cannot express the loss that we all feel. My heart goes out to the entire Schneider Family."
In addition to his regular practice of 35 years, Dr. Schneider worked as either the medical director or part of the medical support team for events such as professional cycling, professional rodeo, CrossFit competitions, and extreme sports.
Dr. Schneider also lent his insight as a contributing writer for various publications including Muscle & Fitness, Prevention, and The Physicians Guide to Prevention. He was also a keynote speaker at the "Medicine in the 21st Century" series at UCLA.
A graduate of Long Beach State, he earned his degree in physical education, exercise physiology, and athletic training tract. Schneider went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Southern California College of Chiropractic, Los Angeles.
Dr. Schneider, who passed away on Oct. 8, was an avid athlete his entire life, college football, bodybuilding competitions, amateur and professional volleyball, and most recently, cycling more than 100 miles a week – rain or shine.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Dr. Schneider on Nov. 2. A livestream of the celebration will also be available here.
