Lt. Gov. Addresses Valley Leaders at CSUN

Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis was among the dignitaries who headlined a gathering of more than 200 of the region’s elected officials and business leaders, as well as CSUN leaders and alumni at the campus’ Orchard Conference Center on Feb. 24. Kounalakis, who served as U.S. ambassador to Hungary before she was elected lieutenant governor in 2018, addressed the third-annual “Our Region, Our Future” summit convened by the Valley Economic Alliance.
She discussed the challenges facing our state, before and since the recent Los Angeles wildfires, particularly the shortage of affordable housing. She also reflected on her own family of immigrants, and how the state’s diversity contributes to California’s strength and success. “We are the largest majority-minority democracy in the history of the world, and it is our differences as much as our similarities that bind us together,” Kounalakis said.
President Erika D. Beck and Chandra Subramaniam, dean of CSUN’s David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, which co-sponsored the summit, welcomed all the program’s dignitaries and participants to campus.
