NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - In the third in a series of MVP (Most Valuable Professor) days honoring the CSUN Faculty this Fall, the Matador women's soccer team paid tribute to 19 professors during halftime of the CSUN-UC Irvine game on Sunday (Oct. 22) at Matador Soccer Field.

At halftime of the Big West contest that saw the two teams play to a 0-0 draw, each participating student-athlete honored one professor who significantly impacted their academic journey, underscoring the deep connections beyond the classroom. Each of the 19 CSUN professors were joined by the nominating student-athlete at midfield during the ceremony.

  • Carlos Armando Hernandez, a professor in the Department of Chicana/o Studies, was invited by student-athlete Yoshi Rubalcava.
  • Martha Carreon, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was invited by student-athlete Daisy Torres.
  • Sharon D. Johnson, a professor in the Department of Africana Studies, was invited by student-athlete Sunny Bowlin-Stacy.
  • Caitlen Diab, a professor in the Department of Communication Studies, was invited by student-athlete Priyanka Pottekkat.

The next Most Valuable Professor Day will be held Thursday, Feb. 15 when CSUN women's basketball takes on Cal State Bakersfield at 6 p.m. inside Premier America Credit Union Arena.
