CSUN Student-Athletes of the Week - Sept. 11
Each week during the 2023-24 season, GoMatadors.com selects two Matadors as Student-Athletes of the Week. This week, we highlight volleyball's Carisa Barron and men's soccer's Jorge Solorzano for their individual performances on the court and on the field.
Carisa Barron, Volleyball
Junior Carisa Barron recorded a pair of double-doubles in CSUN's three matches at the Portland Invitational last weekend. Barron opened the tournament with a 13 kill-11 assist performance against Eastern Washington before posting 24 assists and 11 digs against Portland. Against the Pilots, she narrowly missed her second triple-double of the season by adding nine kills and three blocks. Barron finished the weekend with 20 assists, nine kills, six digs and three blocks against Wyoming.
Jorge Solorzano, Soccer
Jorge Solorzano scored twice in a 1-1-1 week. His penalty kick with 2:49 remaining in the second half resulted in a hard-fought 1-1 tie for CSUN at UCLA on Sept. 4. Solorzano posted the opening goal of the Matadors' 3-1 victory over UNLV on Sept. 7. With four goals this season, the freshman forward is tied for the Big West lead in goals with one other player and begins the week 14th in Division I in the category.
