- 9:30 AM1h 30mTunisian Women's Activism: The Struggle for Social and Gender Justice ContinuesTunisian women have long participated in struggles for liberation, first in anticolonial movements, then against state corruption and dictatorship in independent Tunisia especially during the 'Arab Spring.' Dr. Grami’s talk will discuss the rich history of the women’s movement in Tunisia to help us understand how women interact with various forms of power to renegotiate their identities and their status.Dr. Amel Grami is a Professor of Gender Studies at the University of Manouba-Tunisia. She is a widely visible and vocal intellectual supporter of women’s rights in the Islamic world, in the Maghreb and Tunisia. She has authored numerous books including /Sexual Differences/ /in Islamic Culture: From a Gender/ /Perspective/, (2007, in Arabic), and /Women and Terrorism: A Gendered/ /Approach/, 2017.This event is co-sponsored by Gender and Women's Studies Department.
